We don't take exotic trips, we have regular jobs, and we have no kids to share silly stories about. Our conversations are probably not all that interesting. We talk a lot about politics, mostly what we've read about and how we feel. Prior to getting married, politics were the last thing I wanted to have a conversation about. In fact when I started dating Daniel I went on one date with another guy before we decided to become exclusive. This guy was very nice and we had a lot of fun on our date, however the turn off was when he told me how much he loves politics and that he could discuss it all day. Enough said. I knew we would not be a good match. I think what scared me

so much about politics was that I was unaware and not up to date. I never read the news and had little knowledge on the current events. I don't like to argue about points so my conversations about politics usually resulted in me nodding my head in agreement with someones perspective on things. Daniel luckily never cared about politics and now as we discuss them, we have found that we are pretty much on the same page about most issues. Every once in a while he makes me angry because he will disagree with something that I have a strong stance on, and he makes me mad that I can't persuade him to agree with what I think. The conversation usually ends in him telling me he can see both sides to the situation which usually still isn't what I want to hear.

Many times our conversations involve how long it takes me to get ready everyday. For me to feel and look my best for the day, I need at least an hour to get ready. That all includes shower, makeup, and hair. If I want to curl my hair I would have to add on another 30 to 45 minutes. Daniel needs 20 minutes. He constantly reminds me of all the things I miss out on because of how long it takes me to get ready. I tell him that it used to take me an extra half hour to get ready in the mornings and that I was proud of myself for being able to shave off so much time. One day while driving in the car we decided to calculate how much time I have invested (wasted according to Daniel) on getting ready. We started with the age 16 since that is probably when I started the beauty routine that I have now. We came up with about 280 days that I have spent getting ready

since I was 16. My response was "that's all?". Daniel's response was "that much?". It's funny how different our perspectives were on that one.

Now most people know we have no kids, but we have a dog who is our pride and joy and we pretty much treat him as if he were our child. Keif Joyce is his name. We've had him for a year and a half. He is one of the best running partners you can have. He carries most of my weight when running up hills and he makes me feel safe. However sometimes when I am using so much energy running up a hill and I'm almost to the top, Keif decides something along the way needs to be investigated and he yanks me to the side messing up my momentum. At this point I must either pull him along so we can keep running or just end my run there and walk the rest of the way to the top. Having a dog has helped me realize that it's a lot easier going running when you have someone who relies on you to take them out for the exercise. I hate running, but I love Keif and want him to be a healthy dog.

Latest updates

Yesterday Daniel clicked on the link for our blog, then proceeds to tell me that I need to update our blog. I've known this for a while now. It's been hard to find time when there are other things I should be doing like cleaning or working. Of course the excuse that I gave him was that whenever I have time to write a blog he is usually on the computer. So today I put all other responsibilities to the side and am updating our blog.

Looking through our pictures I came across a short trip we took to Julian, CA in late October. I thought it would be nice to just get away and be able to walk and talk with Daniel. We stopped at a place called Mom's and got a caramel apple crumb pie. It definitely demonstrated why Julian is known for their apple pies. We had fun splurging on some sweets and walking through such a little town.

Now just this last year I became a huge fan of the band America. They are a 1970's folk band with many hits such as "Ventura Highway" and "Horse With No Name" to name a couple. Last year I made a Pandora playlist for the band and discovered that they sang a lot of good songs that I already loved, but had no idea that they sang them. Since then I have been anxiously waiting for them to perform a show in San Diego so Daniel and I could go. On November 4th they came to the contemporary art museum in La Jolla so do an interview and then to play an acoustic set. I begged Daniel and he said we could go. It was such a great experience to hear how the band started, the inspiration behind their music, and how they have been making music for so long. Their set was amazing. I'm ma

d at myself for not recording more of their performance. They are great live performers and listening to them has re

minded me how people who make music now a days just don't do it the same. We were able to witness their marriage in the Salt Lake City Temple. That was our first time inside that temple and what an inspiration it truly is knowing the time spent and the details that went into such a sacred place. We are very excited for Ben and Maggie to be starting their lives together and can't wait until we buy our house so that they can come visit us. The wedding gave us an excuse to take a trip to Utah. We were able to visit some friends and eat at a lot of places that we missed. Although we ran out of

time to go to the BYU Creamery, I was a little sad about that. Thanksgiving day we spent on the road to Vegas. We did eat at a sports bar, not our first choice. We wanted to eat at Cracker Barrel for some traditional Thanksgiving food, but the wait was an hour and fifteen minutes and our stomachs did not want to wait that long.

<div style="text-align: center; In Vegas we had tickets to go to the Las Vegas Basketball tournament because guess who was going to be playing??? University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill (UNC). The Tar Heels were the high light of the tournament and we were able to watch them play live for the first time. Daniel was so excited and I was glad to finally watch the team in person. The first game they played was against University of South Carolina which was an easy win. The next night was against UNLV which was basically a home game for them. The game had a great atmosphere, but UNC played weak. UNLV won 90-80. We did find out that UNLV fans are horrible drunks.

They threw things at the UNC fans and a few even tried to hurt Roy Williams (UNC's Coach). Although they weren't able to pull it through the second game it was still a lot of fun to watch them. The trip we had was exactly what we needed and I'm glad that Daniel and I could have some alone time!

Daniel's Birthday and our summer summary

So my sweet husband just turned 26 on Wednesday. We are now officially 1 year apart for the next 6 months. For his birthday he wanted to go to a basketball tournament in Vegas that the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill (UNC) basketball will be playing in. For those of you who don't know Daniel very well, he is all about UNC sports. The tournament is not until Thanksgiving weekend so since I am a wonderful wife I surprised him with a couple of small gifts. First I had been putting money away for about a month to use on a present for him. With that money he bought a watch, something he has been wanting for a while. According to him, women have jewelry and men have watches. I had also found a t shirt online that said "property of the catahoula leopard dog", which would be the breed of dog we have.

I figured it would make a good workout shirt. We cooked dinner together, me making side dishes and Daniel grilling the steaks on the grill. For the cake he wanted German Chocolate Cake which my mom made for him with frosting from scratch. The day was great and filled with a Lord of the Rings marathon as per Daniel's request. We are excited to enjoy his main gift coming this November in Vegas. It will be a nice little vacation doing something that we enjoy.

Although the summer went by quickly I feel that we made the most of it. Thanks to the gift I got for my birthday (season passes to the San Diego Zoo and Safari Park) we made lots of trips to the Zoo.

We also spent a lot of Sundays at the beach, soaking up the sun and playing in the waves.

Since Daniel was very busy during the week we found Sunday to be the only day we could actually make plans to do something. We are both very grateful for having work, but we do look forward to the time that we can spend together.

Now that the summer is over it's football season, so every Saturday night that I am not working I am staying in with Daniel to watch multiple college football games. At least I get to spend time with him. And having to sit through hours of football has made me realize that I do enjoy watching football and the rivalry among different teams. I'm learning new terms and am happy to report that I know what a pick 6 is as well as what different flag calls mean. I still personally enjoy watching basketball more.

With Halloween around the corner I have been trying unsuccessfully to convince Daniel to dress up with me this year. I only want to dress up for when we meet at our church for trick or treating. I told him to be Peter Pan and that I could be Tiger Lily, even Keif could dress up as captain hook, but he won't go for it. We found the funniest dog costumes while browsing the internet. One of my personal favorites was a monkey that you strap onto your dogs back. There was also a headless horseman that strapped onto your dogs back that I got a kick out of.

They don't have one big enough for Keif, otherwise I would have ordered it for sure. If I end up winning the battle for dressing up this Halloween I will definitely post it on here.

The Colorado Vacation

We've been spending the last couple of days getting back into our routine of work, gym and, well, more work. Sounds depressing, but it is nice to get back to a schedule. Our trip was a great trip! A lot of traveling aka driving, I calculated it out to be about 38 hours of traveling in the car. No wonder why Keif slept the entire time in the car.

Our first stop was Gilbert, AZ. That was a 6 hour drive from my house in Valley Center, CA. We stayed with my Aunt Rose and her family there. I hadn't seen them in years so it was really nice to visit with her. We met my cousins' daughters ages 2 and 6. The two year old, Sariah, sang her ABC's for us and the 6 year old, Breanna, demonstrated how much better she could say her ABC's. Daniel got a kick out of how much Sariah talked, we couldn't understand her, but she was so expressive with her hand movements and facial expressions.

Next we drove 10.5 hours to Sanford, CO. Sanford is home to my mother's parents and siblings. Daniel has never met my maternal grandparents, so this was quite the treat for him. I'm sure the many stories I told him of my grandmother's little frame and spitfire attitude did not disappoint at the initial greeting. Daniel was surprised at how tall my grandpa was, probably because all of us are such shorties compared to him. He really enjoyed meeting them and only called them grandma and grandpa. My grandma was her usual self with trying to feed us all til we were stuffed; she made us breakfast the whole time we stayed there as well as dinner. Grandma was a bit intimidated by Keif, but he is an intimidating looking dog. Keif was able to hang out with my Aunt Regina's 6 year old dachshund Sugar. They did fight over his food, but other than that they enjoyed each other's company.

2.5 days are what we spent in the Valley. We filled those days with trips to the dunes, hiking Zappata falls, 4 wheeling and shooting in the mountains, and visiting lots of people. My cousin Nakayla gave us an exclusive tour of the Adam State College campus with the thanks of my Aunt Berna letting us borrow her key to see the rooms. I met a few new members of the family which made me wants kids even more, but that will happen someday. Daniel was impressed with how much he enjoyed being in the Valley and is definitely excited for the next time we go.

The third leg we drove 4 hours to Denver, CO. There we had a family reunion on the Martinez side. My dad had 5 siblings he hadn't seen since he was 8 so as you could imagine emotions were high. My mom and dad had already met up with everyone prior to the reunion, but now it was time for all the kids and grandkids to meet. What an amazing experience to meet people for the first time who are your blood relatives! There is definitely a lot of regret in not being able to have grown up knowing each other, but everyone was so happy to meet each other, so friendly and open. It made for an absolutely incredible journey. I look forward to getting to know more of my family from here on out. On this trip I was also able to meet my nephew Noah for the first time. He is so cute and was so easy going. I kept stealing him from people and he was good to go with me. I miss not being in closer range to where my sister lives. I love her family so much and enjoy the time I spend with them.

Next up, the drive to Provo, UT, the total time...7 hours...and a few minutes here and there. We missed a turn off on one point, but luckily we noticed it early on so it only delayed us about 20 minutes. I was able to have lunch with two of my favorite people, and it was much needed girl time, while Daniel spent time with Ben and his boo Maggie. After lunch we headed to the Creamery on 9th and got our stomachs full of delicious creamery ice cream! Too bad we couldn't travel with the icecream back to CA, we love that stuff. Our stay in UT was very brief. I wanted to see so many more people, but just didn't have enough time. We stayed at my cousin Branden's new house. It was very nice and made me more antsy to get our own place. His wife looked beautiful being pregnant and their son Ty is getting so big. Crazy how we grow up to start our own families.

Finally we drove 10 hours back to home sweet home. I probably will try to avoid a trip like that again for a long time, unless we had an RV to do it all in. The trip was wonderful and I already miss everyone we saw, but it's working hard that makes those vacations so much more sweet to go on.

The Busy Month of March

March was so busy, that I didn't even have time to blog about it. Luckily I am able to take the time to blog today about just all that we did. It began with our two year anniversary on March 14th. Daniel actually couldn't remember when it was, but at least he remembered the month and since he is so cute I'll let it slide. We didn't do too much since we were taking a trip at the end of the month. We went to Old Town San Diego to eat Mexican food, then went to the La Jolla cove to explore the cove and watch the sunset. We also got frozen yogurt from Golden Spoon, yum! It was a great day and I enjoyed spending time with Daniel. He is my best friend and I'm excited to spend many, many more anniversaries with him.

Now for our trip, it was a great trip! We started out flying to Raleigh, NC where we stayed with Daniel's friend Jeff at his place in Durham. While visiting him for the day we checked out UNC's campus at Chapel Hill, visited Duke's campus and Daniel even ran into Reggie Bullock, who plays on the UNC basketball team. He was able to take a picture with him.

The next couple of days we traveled down to Charlotte to see where Daniel grew up and to visit friends of his from high school. He showed me the schools he went to, the church building he attended, and the homes he had loved in. There were tons of trees, just like he had said. He was sad that there were no leaves on them at the time we were there, but I did get to see a lot blossoms on trees. The people were friendly and said yes ma'am and no ma'am. Daniel's friends were nice and even told me how he was on high school...which was exactly what I thought.

After a couple of days in Charlotte we went up north to Frederick, MD to attend Daniel's sister, Amanda's, Baptism. We met up with Daniel's parents, brother Dustin with his family, and sister Becky with her family. The baptism was a sweet, intimate gathering to support Amanda with her decision. We also were able to meet Fiona and Duke, Daniel's niece and nephew, for the first time.

We were also able to visit with Daniel's Uncle Bryan and Aunt Kathy. Getting to know Daniel's family made this a wonderful trip and has definitely made me feel more part of the Joyce family. Along with Bryan and Kathy we toured Mount Vernon which is where George Washington's mansion as well as tomb are located. We also got to walk around DC with them and thanks to the place they were staying in DC, I got to see some picket line action going on.

Going back to DC made me realize how much I liked being in that city. It has lots of free museums to attend, great public transportation and so much history. It was really cold though, but if that city had the same weather as San Diego, lets just say I would be trying to live there.

Daniel and Tiffany's Day of Fun!

Today I had the day off!! Ok, may not sound that special, but I had worked 10 days straight and I was definitely feeling overworked. I had originally planned on running errands since I figured Daniel would be working, but he surprised me with the news that he also had the day off. I was ecstatic to say the least. Last night we came up with a few different game plans for the next day, to makes sure we could fit in everything we wanted to do and also alternatives in case the weather didn't cooperate. When we got up and noticed that there was no rain we decided to go with our first plan.

We both have been feeling that our sweet dog Keif has been getting neglected lately. So we decided to take him and Dolly, my mom's toy poodle, to the beach. It was so sunny and beautiful at Moonlight Beach in Encinitas. Keif ran around the sand and water with Daniel while Dolly was my little shadow and stayed by my feet the whole time. My mom recently gave Dolly a haircut so we bought her a little sweater to keep her warm while we were out.

After running at the beach we decided to give the dog park at Balboa Park another chance. Keif did fine there the first time we took him. The second time he was being a bit too Alpha for his own good and was coming across as a bully. We hoped the third time would be a charm. Balboa park was bustling with tourists and children on field trips as it usually is. We didn't see too many dogs being walked around which worked out well for us. At the dog park there were about 30 dogs of all different sizes and ages. Keif did really well. He wasn't acting aggressive towards any dogs and he even won over some of the people who were their with their dogs. All in all it was a successful trip to the dog park.

In the afternoon we returned the dogs home all tuckered out. Daniel and I were then able to enjoy the rest of the evening together. The day was a great one and it helped to refuel me to be ready to work tomorrow. Only 27 more days until our trip to North Carolina so we can have a real vacation. But until then I'm just focusing on getting some work done.

When we first met...

Today while on facebook I came across a link to a blog. The blog belongs to a mother (Joanne) of a friend of mine (Allison). I'm thinking it would probably make for some good reading seeing as how my friend is hilarious and she had to get it from someone. I was so right. I read through the blog for about an hour when I decided I needed to save some reading material for another day. I guess what makes the blog even more interesting to read is that my friend would always tell me stories about her mom, so this blog just reinforced the stories I had heard. One of the blogged inputs was about how Joanne had met her husband. I've decided it would be a good story to share since not every one knows how we meet. And in a strange twist of coincidences, one of Joanne's daughters (Charley) was a helper in how Daniel and I met.

It was the weekend after Valentine's day in 2008. I was already annoyed from the holiday because all of my roommates had received Valentines from boys, some even multiple (Khealynn). On Valentine's day itself I went out to dinner with some friends of mine who were also single and called it an early night since I was under the weather. Amber had come out for the weekend since she liked to visit often, being only four hours away in Rexburg, ID. We went to a play that weekend too, Jungle Book at BYU, which is initially why she came. Sunday came and Amber and I slept through my church time which was 8:30 AM. We decided to hit up church when our cousin, Branden had church which was 1:30 PM.

We got to church a few minutes late and sat in the back. We happened to be sitting on the same row as Charley so after church I said hello and had a quick chat. Daniel was sitting with Charley, she was pretty much one of the only people he got along with at church. While Charley and I were talking, Daniel was trying to get her to introduce us, but she just brushed him aside. After chatting Amber and I went into the lobby to wait for Branden who was running late. About 5 minutes later this guy came up to me and said, "Hey, you're Charley's friend". I said yes and he then introduced himself and his friend Ben. While talking we found out that Ben was going to the same school as Amber so they started talking. Apparently Ben was fulfilling his wingman duties as Daniel explained to me later. Daniel then started chatting with me. My first impression I was just some guy at church who wanted to talk. Amber had to tell me that Daniel was hitting on me because I was so oblivious. He invited me to Sunday dinner, basically just a bunch of coeds hanging out. I told him I'd think about it, but decided to hang out with my sister instead.

A couple of days later Allison gave me a call. She asked me if I remembered Dan from church and if it was ok if Charley gave him my number. I thought about it for a minute, I was a little hesitant because he didn't really catch my eye, but then Allison said something that made me decide to give the ok. She said, "He just got out of a relationship and that he didn't want anything serious". She also said, "Hey if you're not interested you can just tell him you got serious with the guy you are dating". I figured it was worth a shot. I was dating someone, but it was not exclusive and the guy was a little flaky.

A few days later I received a phone call from Dan. I think I let it hit the voicemail first because I didn't recognize the number. I listened to the message and called him back. I was on my way home from tanning. At the time I used a tingler tanning lotion which if anyone has ever used knows it burns. It makes you feel really itchy so I was looking forward to getting home so I could shower and get ready for a date, with the other guy I was dating. We chatted a moment and he invited me to another Sunday dinner at Charley's. I figured, why not, and I accepted. When I walked into Charley's apartment that Sunday and saw Daniel, I realized he was a lot cuter then I had remembered. Dinner was fun and we were able to talk a bit. I remember being bugged that he didn't offer to walk me home (we lived in the same apartment complex), but it was a fun evening none the less. A few days later he called me. I was in the computer lab so I resorted to texting. He then asked me out on a date via text. I was annoyed that he asked me out through text, but seeing as how I lived at school that semester I figured it was probably the only plausible way he could ask me out.

Things went well on our date obviously and here we are 3 years later. Almost to our 2 year anniversary and we even have our our addition to our family...Keif. I guess my story is not as cool as Joanne's who can add in 20 something years later to her blog, but I look forward to being able to share this story with our kids and even grandkids. For now it's a story for the blog.

Good start to a new year.

So far this new year we are experiencing has been good. We just welcomed a new nephew into the family from my sister Anissa on January 9th. This is their last child, and their first son. She already has 3 girls so this birth was pretty exciting. This is also the first grandson for my parents. They named him Noah Thomas Elias Smith. He is named after Noah's grandfather, and after himself. I haven't met the little guy yet but I am looking forward to seeing him for his blessing next month.

Last Friday Daniel and I took a little trip to L.A. My mom and Amber were both flying out of the Long Beach airport so we decided that since we were up there we would make the most of it. We first decided to find the house that was used in the movie "Father of the Bride", and we found it in Pasadena, CA.

It is such a beautiful house! Daniel says that's the kind of house he wants someday. After we walked around the neighborhood we decided to stop by to see the Rose Bowl. After turning around a few times thanks to the ever so reliable directions from google map, we finally found the place.

It was in a pretty open location and it was a popular spot for people to go running and to walk their dogs. After our little driving adventure we decided to go to UCLA's campus. However by the time we got their it was dark so we didn't see very much. Then we went home which took us a total of 3 hours thanks to L.A. traffic. Probably won't take any more trips up their soon, but it was a fun day none the less.

Something pretty exciting is that Daniel and I will be taking a trip out to the East side. I just booked our trip yesterday. We are flying into Raleigh, NC to spend some time in Chapel Hill and Durham, visit his Aunt and Uncle in Greensboro, NC then we will head to Charlotte, NC and Fort Mill, SC so I can see where Daniel grew up. After that we are going to Frederick, MD to spend time with Daniel's family as well as attend his younger sister's, Amanda, baptism. And of course while we are there we will be spending a couple of days in D.C. to enjoy the museums. It will be a very busy trip, but I look forward to spending time with Daniel, seeing his family and meeting new family members. I'm just hoping the weather will cooperate with us the last week of March so that our flights won't get canceled.

The Last Post of the Year!

It's New Years Eve, well the day of the Eve if you will. This year has been a great one. There were many ups and downs, mostly ups though :) Daniel and I have grown as a couple and I think we have figured out what buttons not to push and what things will make the other person smile.

Christmas was great this year. We were able to spend the day with my family. I helped make Christmas dinner. I even tried out a new pie recipe, compliments of Sister Marolyn Staffieri, and it was a hit! I got Daniel some new shirts since he has been wanting some and he got me a nano iPod since he said the one I had was outdated and pink. He bought me a blue one, that way he can borrow it if he needs to.

The most important thing that has happened to us this year I would have to say was that Daniel and I were able to get sealed! It was a great accomplishment for us and I feel our journey has allowed for us to have that much more of an appreciation for the Temple.

I'm glad to say that I have a wonderful family on both mine and Daniel's side. They are all so supportive of us and willing to help us out when we need it. Next year we plan a trip to Charlotte, NC with our tax returns and I look forward to visiting where Daniel grew up as well as visit his family. Currently we live with my family and once again I'm grateful for patient parents who are willing to let us stay with them while we save up money.

All in all 2010 was a great year, and I'm very excited for 2011 to begin. So Happy New Years everyone and we wish you all the best with the new year!!

It Never Rains in Southern California...

As you can see, this is not the case. It has been raining non stop for the last week, and it's not supposed to let up until Thursday. Hopefully our pool makes it until then without overflowing. It has been horrible to drive in. There is already weird traffic due to the holiday and the shopping, but adding rain onto it just increases the commute time. Daniel has been giving me a hard time about it since we're in San Diego and it's not supposed to rain this month. Must be El Nino or something.

The dogs don't like it either. They have been pent up in the garage, mostly because they don't like the rain. In order for me to get them to go outside for their restroom breaks I have to stand outside with them in the rain. I think they like the company. It's so funny to watch them out in the rain. Dolly hates it and tries to get inside every chance she gets. Keif I noticed was trying to go to places where he would not get as wet. Either way the second that I hint to go inside they are way ahead of me, waiting by the door.

The rain made it difficult for me to pick up Amber from the Long Beach Airport on Friday. I had met up with Allison in Huntington Beach for some lunch at a Thai place. It was called Phuket Thai, pronounced poo-ket :) It was really good and reasonably priced. I told Daniel we'll have to go the next time we are visiting. It was nice to visit with Allison who I had not seen in almost a year. It'll be good to be closer here so that I can try to meet up with her more often.

The Christmas festivities are coming together. I've decided to make an eggnog pumpkin pie, the recipe of which I had found in a family cookbook given to me from a dear friend of the family. I'm glad she gave it to me for mine and Daniel's wedding because the food in it is delicious! I work every night this week so I am looking forward to having this Christmas weekend off.

A California Style Holiday

On Sunday Daniel and I were able to take a little trip to San Diego. The weather was perfect and it was relaxing to not have to worry about work. We first went to Balboa Park to walk around and to visit our favorite spot, the dog park. First Daniel and I have moved to San Diego and are with my parents which means no rent and no snow! I'm definitely grateful for the no snow part since I've been hearing a lot about the large amounts of snow that Utah has been getting. I don't miss driving in it, cleaning it off my car, or being cold in it. I'm definitely a California girl.

Keif has been doing well the adjustment of moving. He now has a couple of acres to run around on and a kennel buddy, my parent's dog Dolly. Although they don't really play together, they do have a mutual tolerance for each other. Since moving back to San Diego we have been able to to take Keif to the dog park at Balboa Park. He had a lot of fun running around the dogs there and was fairly friendly. We've also taken him to the dog park closer to my parent's in Escondido. That went well until he became territorial of the park and started to scare people from bringing their dogs in while he was there. He's just too Alpha for his own good. We've decided it's best we just take him to regular parks when no one is there for him to run around at.

Work has been going well. Daniel is able to clean carpets with my dad and I have the ol' fall back Chili's to work with. I was not able to work at the Chili's in Escondido like I had planned on since they already have too many employees, but I was lucky enough to get work at the chili's in Temecula. The commute is a little longer, but I'm grateful for the job.

Last week for Thanksgiving we were able to visit with my family. Anissa and Noah came

with their three daughthers, and Amber and Aaron carpooled down from school. We all went to the San Diego State football game against the University of Utah. Daniel was true to Utah and sported his Utah shirt. I on the other hand wanted San Diego to win, maybe it's the BYU roots that I have in me just wanting Utah to lose. It was a great game and for a while it looked like San Diego had the game, but at the end Utah pulled through and won the game 38 to 34. We all had a lot of fun.

For Thanksgiving, Daniel, Amber and I started the day playing some Turkey bowl. It was a flag football game with the singles ward here. It was pretty fun, but next year I'd rather watch him play then participate. After that all of the ladies of the house started putting together the Thanksgiving meal. I made some sweet potato casserole, the recipe being Daniel's mom's recipe, and I made a peanut butter chocolate pie. Both dishes were a hit. I even made a sugar free sweet potato casserole that everyone said was also delicious. Our friend from Utah Angie Wilson joined us for Thanksgiving since she wasn't able to to make it home. It was so nice to visit with a friend we hadn't seen for a bit. Afterwards we took her to old town in San Diego to see the Mormon Battalion. We had a lot of fun going through the tour and panning for gold.

This year I decided to try out Black Friday. I woke up at 4 to get ready and made my way to Target, Best Buy, and the mall. I actually got some great deals on gifts and got all my Christmas shopping done. Next year I want to go with someone so it won't be so boring.

Being able to spend Thanksgiving with my family was wonderful. The Holidays are wonderful because they tend to bring out the best in everyone. This time of year is a great time for me to reflect on the past year and to think of the many blessings I have. There are so many people who care for Daniel and me and we really appreciate the extra help others give to us. I'm thankful for a wonderful husband who is always trying to be better for me. He constantly asks me for my feedback on what he can improve on. I only hope that I am being a fulfilling wife for him. I love him so much and am grateful for the sacrifices he makes for our little family. I'm so grateful that we were able to go to the temple and that we were able to have family there to witness it. I'm grateful for the support that Daniel's family gives us in every decision that we make. And of course I'm grateful that my parents are kind enough to let us live with them while we save up our money.

I hope that we are all able to make the best out of this holiday season and that we remember that serving others is the most rewarding part of the Holiday Season. Happy Holiday Season to everyone!

Recapping the Summer

So I apologize for my leave of absence on this blog. We've filled our summer with hiking, park time, work and even squeezed in a vacation to California for my brother's high school graduation. As you can see he was very successful in his endeavor. When we returned to Utah we ended up moving into a house that allowed for us to have a pet. So we decided to adopt a dog from the local Animal Shelter. There was where we met and fell in love with Keif, a Catahoula Cur. These dogs are a type of herding dog from Louisiana. They were bred for their problem solving and for their toughness. He's such a sweet dog though. But enough about the weather, this weekend I was able to spend time with both of my sisters. I haven't seen Anissa for a whole year so it was so nice to spend some time with her. She was here for Womens conference at BYU. She a had a great time at the conference and was able to go to a lot of valuable classes learning many new things to apply to her life. Amber is here more frequently, but it was still very nice to have her visit.
Saturday I started my day with watching Daniel play some flag football. He and some coworkers put together a team to compete with other flag football teams in a kind of club. They didn't do so well the first game, but the second game their talent really had shown through. Daniel caught 3 interceptions alone. I was able to find some cool Washington DC scrapbooking stuff that Daniel and I can use for our pictures from our honeymoon to the nation's capital. Wrong again. In Utah, the lovely Beehive State, it feels that nice weather during the springtime is way too predictable, snow however will get the residents off guard, because who would think that they would have to clean snow off their car in April before heading to work in the morning? I suppose I'm being a little over dramatic. Today is a nice day. Google weather promised that Provo should be seeing a high of 62 F sunny skies. Don't let that get your hopes up though, because tomorrow it is predicted to be partly cloudy followed with a mostly cloudy for Saturday's forecast. It's OK though Utah, I understand that snow is vital to making sure the state has enough "moisture" for the year. So if the snow is making it possible for me to be able to shoot off fireworks this 4th of July then by all means, snow away.

Well, now that I got my little rant over with I can proceed with updates on our whereabouts for the last few weeks. So for our Anniversary, Daniel surprised me with a trip to San Diego for some much need time off and to be able to visit with my family who I hadn't seen for almost a year (which is way too long for me). I was so excited about that trip that we pretty much left the night he told me and drove all night to get there at 8AM PST.

Daniel had everything planned. After stopping at my parent's house we set off for the beach. We walked around, looked at the ridiculously over priced homes right on the coast, met up with my parents at Balboa park to watch the dogs play at the dog park there and then we met up with my best friend Stephanie and her two little kids to eat out at a super good and cheap Sushi place. The next day we went to the beach again and then were able to visit my cousin Noah, his wife and their little baby who is so cute. It was such a nice and relaxing trip. It was good to be around family and great to escape the cold weather in UT. The trip definitely made it that much harder to return back to work. We are planning another trip down in June for my Brother's graduation and this time we are taking a whole week. I hope that this next trip has Disneyland in the agenda.

And now a little shout out for my mom. It's her Birthday today. She is 25 today ;) She never ages, I hope to inherit that agelessness from her so that I too may remain forever 25. Happy Birthday mom! We Love you!!

It's March now, so can it be spring yet?

I'm getting so tired of the cold weather. Daniel and I both agree that it is time for summer. We are ready to go hiking, to ride our bikes, go swimming and play at the park. Living in Utah made me realize how much I took living in San Diego for granted. We had wonderful weather year round, aside from the occasional rain storms. Plus seeing the trees with no leaves and brown everywhere just becomes a downer. We're aching for the season to change.

So in interesting news I had the opportunity of setting my younger sister up with a coworker of mine. I'd say they have hit it off rather nicely. All I ask is that I be the maid of honor at their wedding :) But you don't have to take my word, just look at their picture and tell me what you think.

Daniel and I had a blast doubling with them a couple of times, first at a random concert then at a pool place, billiards if you will. Amber was so kind as to document our time at both events.
As you can see we had tons of fun on our date. We all found out that Trevor was pretty good at pool. Basically the only way I can play is if Daniel shows me where to aim the ball at. We make a good team.

Well that's all for now. I hope this blog finds everyone well and will find time to update about our anniversary coming up here on the 14th. I plan on taking a few pictures to share.

The Coolest Wedding Ever!

This blog is a little out of order. Still I'd rather share this story none the less. Back in December a good friend of ours got married (shout out to Charley and Vito). Charley was the one who initially was involved in Daniel meeting me. I know Charley through an old roommate/ best friend since they are sisters and Daniel knows Charley from church. Charley is the sweetest, shyest person I know and it was cute to see her go from having a crush on this guy she knew from school to marrying him.

What made their wedding so cool was that it was done with a Polynesian flare complete with Lu'au style dining (and yes that did me a roasted pig) and a few performances ranging from dancing to singing. The bride and groom even participated in a few dances themselves. You see Vito (the groom) is from Fiji and who knew they could throw a good party. It was more like going to a show with good dinner than an actual wedding. If only more weddings could be this entertaining rather than the cookie cutter types of weddings most of us are used to attending. I'm definitely pushing for my sister to meet a Polynesian guy so that I'll be able to attend another one of these awesome weddings.

Ok, so it's past Christmas and New Years, sorry for the slacking on my part. But here I am now trying to redeem myself with some new photos. So for the newest news, I cut my hair :) It's definitely a new look, way different from the long tresses I'm used to sporting but I like the change and so does Daniel. He wants me to keep it for a while.

Things have been going well for us. We have been working hard, but have managed to hit up a couple of BYU hockey games, one of which was against UVU and BYU won. The weather is still cold, but it hasn't snowed too much. I'm sure we'll get some more snow in soon.

So here is the picture of the Christmas tree I promised, Daniel decorated it for the most part. He has a great talent with decorating things :) Which is good because sometimes I'm not so big on decorating my house. It'll be better when we get a bigger house so we have more room for things.

For New Years my sister did come to visit me for the weekend on her way up to Idaho. We were able to go out for sushi with a bunch of friends. Although the sushi was so good, the service that night was not so great. I'm a server and understand that when it's busy sometimes there's not much you can do to get everything out fast or be around much. However there is such a thing as apologizing for the situation. Not once did our server apologize for our food taking so long. Amber didn't get her sushi roll for a good hour after we had all gotten our food. One of our friends ordered more sushi and the ticket got lost. And all the server would say to us when we'd ask if our rolls were almost done was "everyone's food is taking a long time, it's New Year's Eve". Another girl who was with us used to be a server and we both agreed that our server was rude! We realized later that she was able to get away with it because since we were a party of 6 there was an automatic gratuity added to the check so we had to tip. I said something to her about Amber's sushi roll coming out so late and asked about her getting a discount so the manager at least discounted all our checks for 25%. I just wish it would have been a better experience and that our server wasn't so rude!

So the Weather Outside Is Frightful

Gotta love the lovely weather in Utah Valley. No matter how many years I live in snow, I still find that I still have no liking for it. It's too cold and is so hard to drive in. I don't mind seeing the snow in the mountains, but all around me for a few months is too much to ask. I'm definitely a true California girl. Daniel doesn't seem to mind it too much, he doesn't care to drive in it either; he doesn't care more or less for the snow. This morning I had to be at work at 7 and when I went outside it was snowing down in chunks! I was only 5 mins late to work, but driving through the neighborhoods to get to get to work was not the easiest to do, even in four wheel drive. I kept sliding on the road and just kept thinking how I was glad I didn't have to drive our saturn ion to work. Daniel gets to drive that one to Draper later today :)

So we got our first Christmas tree (pictures are pending). It's a fake tree with the lights already in the tree, it was actually cheaper than the trees without lights. We decided to go with red and gold for the tree ornaments and a gold star for the top. It's 6.5 ft but is just perfect for our apartment.

Congratulations to Daniel! He got the lead position at the boy's group home that he works at. It's basically a supervisor position and along with it comes higher pay, more hours and benefits. We'll have to work a little harder at synchronizing our schedules so that we can see each other, but so far his schedule fits well with mine. It's a real blessing for him to get that promotion and I'm very proud of him.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!!!

This Thanksgiving I find myself grateful for many things. I'm grateful for a wonderful husband who I love and appreciate so much. He's on his way to North Carolina for a birthday party for his Aunt Linda and boy, if you want to know how much you really care about a person, take a 5 day break from them and you will realize just how much they mean to you. I miss him like crazy right now, especially for the Holiday, and I figure he misses me too made evident by the number of "I miss you texts" I've received right after he left yesterday morning.

I'm thankful for being able to work, something I am currently doing at the group home and will be here until 11PM tonight. I really do love my job here though. The girls here mean so much to me, I know they are awesome people who are trying to make the most of the hand they were dealt with and although they've made many mistakes I still believe they are good.

I'm so thankful for family, both mine and Daniel's. It so nice to be able to add family members and I look forward to be able to get to know my in-laws better as the years go by. Both our families have done so much for us, helping us out financially, spiritually, and emotionally. It's always so hard for me to spend Holidays without family because they mean so much to me.

I'm so grateful for friends. I have such wonderful friends, so does Daniel. I've had so much positive support from my friends and I know that Daniel's friends do so much to help him out as well.

I hope that everyone is able to have a great day today and that we are all able to eat tons of food, watch lots of football and most importantly remember what is most important to us. I love you all, we love you all.

Another Day

Daniel and I both got to work today. I say that with slight sarcasm. We always look forward to Sundays because usually neither of us work and we can enjoy each others company. But he will be working the next few Sunday days at the boys group home he works at in Draper. His shift is from 6AM to 2PM. I had a work meeting at Chili's from 8:45 to 10AM and then work at the girls group home in Provo from 3PM to 11PM (I'm there right now). So I got to see Daniel for a good 15 minutes. I don't mind working at the girls home, just would rather be at home with the hubby. We do get tomorrow evening together at least, I'm looking forward to that.

Daniel loves his new job at the boys home. He tells me that after every shift he works. He get's to play football with the guys and doesn't mind being stern when he needs to be. Today he was in charge of watching the kids who were in trouble. He had to constantly remind them that they needed to be working on something and not talking or sleeping. I knew he would be great at the job and I'm glad his supervisor, my old coworker at the girls home, was able to see that he would be a good fit for the job.

So I am officially counting down until Christmas. That is when I will finally get a break and a vacation. Daniel get's to go to North Carolina for Thanksgiving which leaves me to work that week. I did plan some girl time with a coworker of mine who will be around for the holiday. I'm really sad I won't be going, but I understand his need to go. He told me he'll take lots of pictures so it will be like I went myself. Christmas in San Diego will be so nice. I get to see all my family, go to the beach, eat lots of sushi, and hopefully go to the San Diego Zoo. Mostly it will be nice to not have to work for a change.

Daniel's Birthday and some other updates

Yes I know that this is a couple of weeks after Daniel's birthday, actually closer to a month after, but we are very busy people who don't have the internet at our place so enough said. In memory of Daniel's 24th birthday I would like to share some photos from what we did to celebrate. We went to Hogle Zoo in Salt Lake and saw a
Cheetah,

                                        A baby elephant,
Penguins, A baby giraffe, And a Tiger! After seeing all that we could at the zoo we went to Big Cottonwood Canyon to take in the changing leaves. We definitely didn't want the day to end, especially since we would be returning to the real world of work.

Along with work news last week was a pretty busy work week for us. Daniel worked from 8AM-noon with one guy Monday through Friday (minus Tuesday), then from 2:30 PM- 7PM with another guy same days as the last. I worked all day Monday, all day Tuesday, all day Wednesday and unintentionally all day Thursday. Thursday I was asked to come in early to work at (6AM to be exact) to take someone to the hospital to get her stomach scoped in Salt Lake. After her surgery I traded off with another staff and stayed with another gal in a different hospital in Salt Lake for bunion surgery. She was scheduled for surgery at 12, didn't get in til 2 and we didn't leave the hospital til 7. So I had a 14 and a half work day when I was only supposed to work until 3PM. It was nice to have Friday night off and all day Sunday to ourselves.

I plan on being better at updating the blog, I'll just need to start bringing my laptop with me to work, or maybe talk Daniel into filling out a blog every once in a while.

The 5K run

Last Saturday went really well. Daniel was one of the top runners for a little bit and I kept my slow and steady pace. He eventually decided he had enough of running and waited til I caught up so we could take a break and walk together. I was happy to take the break but, had my own goal of running the whole time. We decided to run the last stretch, of course Daniel beat me. I managed to get my time in 29:18 which hit my goal (a time under 30). Even though we didn't win we still had a lot of fun doing the run. Daniel and I both came to the realization just how out of shape we really were.
After the run we decided to treat ourselves with protein smoothies from gold's gym, then were off to pick up the kid that Daniel works with for his job.
This week has been another busy one, but we're gearing up for Daniel's birthday on Monday the 28th. We're actually celebrating it on Sunday since we both work Monday, but I at least got the evening off instead of working all day like I normally do.
Also Amber comes next week for general conference weekend so that gives me an excuse to finally get our place in order.
Well we got a few more things to do tonight before we turn in so we'll have another update next week.

Getting Things Together

So we moved into our basement apartment starting last Wednesday and finished getting everything in by last Friday. Unfortunately we are still in the organization process. Work for me has been slowing the process down and Daniel as well has been busy with work and school, all though football tends to be a bit of a distraction for him ;) We hope to get the place totally cleaned up and neat on Sunday when we both have the free time to do it.

I had plans to work on it Wednesday afternoon, but was disappointed to discover that for some reason the sink was draining into the dishwasher. It was pretty annoying considering the dishes were pile high on account that I had worked the last 3 days all day. I was looking forward to putting my evening off to good use but ended up watching TV with Daniel. We told our landlords about it yesterday and they came over today while we were out and about to fix it! Daniel and I are both very grateful that our landlords were so speedy to our needs.

Tomorrow Daniel and I are running a 5K for Chili's, well the money goes to St. Jude's Cancer Research Hospital. I'm a little nervous, but excited all the same. Just hope I can keep up with Daniel, ha ha that's not going to happen. I plan on going a good pace and then kicking it up once I'm almost done. Wish us luck! The winner gets a $25 gift card to Chili's, our favorite restaurant!

Other news Daniel and I finally gave in and bought a laptop. It's Toshiba with a 16" HD screen, intel core 2 duo, 3GB SDRAM, and 320 GB HDD. I'm not totally sure what some of that means but I do know it's really good as far as speed goes. Daniel will be using it for school and I'll be using it when I go to school with the girls at the group home. So hopefully I will be able to keep my weekly update promise for the blog.

We Found a New Place!!!

So this last week we did a little home searching, not to buy of course, but to rent. We found one place that was cute and pretty close to UVU campus. We were planning on living there until Daniel found a place on craigslist that looked like it had a lot to offer. We went together to take a look at it. It wasn't too much, but just what we needed for ourselves. It's a basement apartment in Orem. You walk in and there is a kitchen area that we could easily fit a table into to make it a dining room as well. There is a dishwasher which we are excited about! The bathroom is nice looking, it has a tub that also has a shower head and there is a stacked washer and dryer which is another bonus for us. There is only one room which we have decided to make the bedroom/ living room. We plan on getting a futon so that we can make it a couch by day and a bed by night. It's a very cozy place and just what we need. The only thing it doesn't have is internet but we are looking at our options, we may have to do without for a little while. Needless to say we signed the contract and put down the deposit. Pictures will be coming soon.

Daniel is back in school but has decided to only take a few classes so that he can help me out with work and saving money. Luckily we don't have to buy too much stuff for our new place since it's so small, but we will be paying a little more than we are used to paying so we know money will be tight. We're just happy to get our own place finally. We've been married for almost 6 months and have needed our own place, especially since we've been stepping on toes and having our own toes stepped on at the place we are at now. Let's just say 2 young newlyweds were never meant to live together, especially for almost 6 months at that.

Other news we have signed up to run a 5K on September 19th for Chili's in American fork. The money is going to St. Jude's Cancer Research Hospital. Chili's takes donations every year for the foundation in the month of September. Guests can purchase t-shirts, keys, and even peppers to color all in the name of St. Jude's. What's so important about this hospital is that they help any child who is in need of cancer treatment regardless of insurance. The hospital relies solely on donations and takes 1 million a day to run because of all those in need they are willing to help. So just a little plug, if you happen to eat out at Chili's this month and can spare any donation is appreciated. As for the run I (Tiffany) am a little nervous about it. I really don't like running but i fugure it's an excuse to get me working hard so that I can do my best. I've only gone running once this last week but have high hopes. I already told Daniel to run ahead of me since the winner gets a $25 gift card to chili's and we can use all the help we can get. We'll post pictures on here from that event as well, but may be a bit since like I said earlier, we don't have internet at our new place yet. Don't worry though, we'll still find a way to keep this blog up to date.

The Beginning

So in hopes of being able to update our family and friends more than just once a month, we've decided to give into the peer pressure around us and start a blog. Our goal is to update the blog once a week, but we make no promises seeing how Daniel is back in school and working and Tiffany is working 3 jobs (mostly chili's and the group home). Both of us are very hard workers with little time to play so when we do have time together we make the most of it.

Today was one of those days that we had time together. After church we came home and ate lunch; followed by the usual Sunday nap. Daniel really wanted to use up his energy so we went to Kiwanis Park in Provo to throw the ball around a bit. Later we went to a work party for Chili's in Herriman, UT by a large pond. The food was great and we even broke our diet to eat one of our friend's delicious, carrot cupcakes. It was worth every extra calorie! Now we're just taking it easy, Daniel is unwinding playing video games and Tiffany is on the computer starting the "updating" blog.

Currently we are trying to save money for a trip to North Carolina for Thanksgiving. Daniel has a very sick aunt and his family is having a big get-together for her. Daniel's mom updated him on it and he really wants to go. Hopefully we can go together, but Daniel may be the only one who will be able to make the trip because we're pretty poor newly weds. But we're keeping our eyes out for any good flight specials and looking at our options. Tiffany would really like to go to see where Daniel grew up since he already saw her stomping grounds. We'll keep you up to date on what our Thanksgiving plans end up being.

Daniel is getting geared up for football season. He's pretty much been waiting for this time of year since basketball ended in April. Daniel is a huge UNC Chapel Hill fan. He feels they will have a pretty good season this year and expects them to do even better next year. For NFL he's definitely a Carolina Panther's fan. We butt heads often since Tiffany is a Charger's fan, more out of loyalty than out of the love of football, so there is a lot of trash talk going on in the home. We'll hopefully be able to check out some college games around here, but for sure we want to support the local sports and start going to some high school games. I'm not sure for which schools yet, but I'm sure we'll find one we want to support.
